A day-by-day plan you can trust

The Church of St. George is a late Roman rotunda dated from 4th century. It was constructed with red bricks and is considered the oldest building in Sofia.

Upon arriving in Sofia, you will be welcomed by a local guide who will accompany you throughout the tour. After your transfer and hotel check-in, take some time to discover the city centre and nearby restaurants. This is an ideal moment to sample authentic Bulgarian dishes and become acquainted with local culture. (B)

Begin your day with an excursion to the spectacular Rila Monastery. Admire its impressive architecture and learn about the rich history of this UNESCO World Heritage landmark. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided walking tour of Sofia, including a visit to the striking Alexander Nevski Cathedral. Travel through the scenic Kazanluk Valley, famous for its rose cultivation. Stop at a traditional rose oil distillery to learn about the production process and sample local products. Visit the replica of the Thracian Tomb in Kazanluk for insight into Bulgaria’s ancient heritage. Continue to Gabrovo and explore the Etar Open Air Museum, where Bulgarian folklore and craftsmanship come to life. After arriving and checking into your hotel, the evening is free for dinner. (B)

Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria

Discover Veliko Tarnovo’s fascinating past with a walking tour and a visit to the Tsarevets Fortress. Continue to the picturesque village of Arbanassi to admire its distinctive traditional houses. Say farewell to your Bulgarian guide as you cross into Romania and proceed to Bucharest.
